The coil weight characteristics
of Borçelik are provided
below:
Coil weight interval: 14
- 22 kg/mm (kg per millimeter
of width)
Maximum coil weight:
30 tons
Delivery of
small coils beyond the coil
weight limits is also possible.

Welds
Borçelik is
able to deliver coils
with weights adapted to
each customer's requirements.
By accepting the presence
of "grouping" welds, the
coil weight can be adjusted
precisely in order to meet
specific requirements. Punched
markers situated less than
1 meter from grouping welds
are usually utilized to
identify the corresponding
areas, and can be located
automatically by a hole
detector. Coils may contain
several such grouping welds.
When an order for coils
requires no welds, the weight
per coil cannot be specified
but must be agreed upon
by prior arrangement.
Permitted
deviation for the weight
specified per coil
Borçelik is not obligated
to supply the exact coil
weight specified. Coil weight
may be between 75% and 100%
of the weight specified.
Up to 20 % of the tonnage
of the sample ordered as
coil may be supplied as
lightweight coils (i.e.,
coils weighing between 25%
to 75% of the specified
weight.)
Packaging
Borçelik adapts the packaging
types utilized to the handling,
storage, and transportation
conditions involved, as
well as to the characteristics
of the products, whether
they are intended as visible
or interior parts. The function
of the packaging used is
to ensure protection against
the risk of oxidation and
light mechanical shocks,
and to preserve the cleanliness
of the products, both at
the edge and periphery of
the coils.
For this purpose, Borçelik
proposes a complete range
of packaging, including:
Standard Packaging :
Utilized for nearby destinations
(fiber reinforced paper
+ metal coil core protection
+ steel straps)
Resistant Packaging
: Utilized for sensitive
surface, or visible aspect,
products (fiber reinforced
paper + metal coil core/outer
wrap protection + circumference
Duralit / Nolcoflex "dent resistant"
protection + steel straps)
Export Packaging :
Utilized for overseas shipments
(fiber reinforced paper
+ metal coil core/outer
wrap protection + circumference
metal protection + steel
straps)
All the materials used
for packaging (such as wood,
paper, and steel) can be
recycled. Other types of
packaging can be employed
upon request.

Handling,
transportation, and storage
Coil handling must be performed
with the appropriate lifting
equipment (fork-lifts, C
tongs, electromagnets, etc.)
Rubber sheathing of the
parts in contact with the
coils is recommended in
order to avoid marking the
products.
The coils are generally
delivered with their axes
in a horizontal position,
in specially equipped vehicles.
Transportation must be performed
in conditions that protect
the coils from exposure
to moisture.
In order to ensure perfect
product conservation and
to reduce the risks of condensation,
the coils should preferably
be stored in closed and
evenly heated premises.
During cold weather, it
is recommended to wait until
the metal has reached the
workshop temperature before
unpacking and using the
coils. Caution should be
exercised in the stacking
of coils to avoid the risk
of marking.
